Last year, Audi took the everyday-friendly Audi R8 V10 for sale and made it just a bit hardcore: starting with the optional 5.2-liter V-10 of the base car, they’ve upped the ante to 560hp and 398lb-ft of torque. An R-Tronic sequential manual gearbox is standard, and 180 pounds has been shaved from the car through a fanatical use of carbon fiber. The front and rear bumpers, side blades, mirror covers and rear wing are all fashioned from the stuff, and further lightening measures have been extended to the battery, rear hatch, braking system and even the carpet. How Audi can make a 2-seat sports car’s carpeting lighter by 17.4 pounds, we’ll never know. Suffice it to say, R8 GT drivers will need to endure a bit more road noise than they may otherwise be accustomed to.
