Underneath its timeless body, however, the Stuttgart-based automaker's latest offering was said to be 85 percent new when compared to its Carrera 3.2 predecessor.rnrnLeading the way was an all-new naturally aspirated air-cooled 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder known as the M64. This engine was all aluminum with dry-sump lubrication, twin-spark ignition, and seven main bearings on a forged crankshaft. The chassis saw the first major suspension redesign since the 911's inception, with coil springs and shock absorbers replacing the previous signature torsion bars. Power steering and antilock brakes were also added for the first time, both as standard equipment. In February 1993, Porsche finally announced the 911 Turbo 3.6, the highest-performance regular production car the company had ever produced.rnrnFed by a single KKK K27 turbocharger, power increased to 355 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The engine shared most internal parts with that of the stock 964, but new pistons and camshafts provided the required 7.5:1 compression ratio. Road tests of the period reported a 0-60 time of just 4.0 seconds. *1990 Porsche Carrera 2*When Porsche first put the 964 generation 911 on sale in 1989, it caused a stir among Porsche purists as it was the first major overhaul of the 911 shape in the model's 25 year production run. With its integrated plastic bumpers, re-designed rear suspension and more supple cabin, the 964 spent many years as the orphaned 911 generation, with enthusiasts opting for the newer 993, or older G-Body cars. But in recent years, enthusiasts have come to realize that the 964 is potentially the best of the 911 range and represents the ideal middle-point between classic driving dynamics and modern comfort, technology and reliability. The 964 was launched into a world wide recession and over the model's 5 years of production, just over 62,000 units were produced- with a large number of those fitted with either all-wheel-drive or a convertible top.Finding a 1990 Carrera 2 Coupe like this car is a challenge in itself and this car is particularly nice, and shows just 95,994 miles on the odometer. This 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe was refinished by Yves Thibeault under the direction of artist Jean-Pierre Lafrance as number two in the Art Cars Project, in which a series of artists have completed uniquely painted Porsche 911s in cooperation with the MusÃ©e National des Beaux-Arts du QuÃ©bec in Canada. Power comes from a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, and features include 16â³ Fuchs wheels, a sunroof, Mahogany leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, central locking, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo.The oil-based custom paintwork was applied by auto-body painter Yves Thibeault, who used airbrushes, hand brushes, spray paints, markers, finger-painting, and sanding to translate Jean-Pierre Lafranceâs directives onto the car itself. The completed project is named âMasterpiece II,â and it features an abstract impressionist-inspired intermixture of bright colors against a white backdrop. Close-up photographs of the livery can be seen in the gallery below.White 16â³ Fuchs wheels have custom-painted center caps, while 205/55 front and 225/50 Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires are mounted. The brake fluid was recently changed. The cabin features seats trimmed in Mahogany leather along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, central locking, and a Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo.The 3.2-liter flat-six was rated for 217 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque when new. By shaving weight from a stock 964 and bumping up the power, Porsche introduced a limited edition 964 in 1992 worthy of the Carrera RS name. With a single-mass flywheel, twin plug engine, racing bucket seats, and a stripped-out interior, not only did it perform far better than a stock 964, but it provided the driver with a direct physical connection to the driving experience. At just under 2700 lbs, by today's standards, it is considered a featherweight car and one of the best-driving modern-era 911s.  The famous moniker "Carrera RS", reserved only for lightweight factory cars, found itself united with Porsche's 964 for the very first time in 1992. Pulling from Porsche's long lineage of lightweight cars with improved performance, the new Carrera RS found various features that embodied the original RS and RSR models. It featured a revised version of the standard engine, titled M64/03 internally, with an increased power output of 260 bhp by tuning and adding a twin plug ignition system, and lightweight flywheel coupled to the G50/10 transmission with closer ratios, asymmetrical Limited Slip Differential, and steel synchromesh. It had a track-oriented suspension system with a 40 mm (1.6 in) lower ride height, stiffer springs, shocks and adjustable stabilizer bars without power steering. Stripped of power windows, sound deadening, power seats, air conditioning, and the stereo, along with thinner side and rear window glass led to reduced weight. The use of magnesium wheels saved 22 lbs alone in addition to the aluminum hood, which also saved a substantial amount of weight. The chassis was welded by hand at the seams to increase rigidity, and when said and done, the Carrera RS would not only provide a more direct and visceral driving experience to the driver but also save over 340lbs.  This vehicle was registered new in 1992 after being sold by Porsche Italy S.p.A. The owner drove the car seldomly for a few years and accumulated a total of 7,000 miles (11,265 km). The 964 RS was then garaged for nearly two decades. In 2017 it was purchased by a California collector who imported the vehicle to the US. Over the course of almost 6 years, he kept the vehicle very well maintained and less than 2,500 miles have been added since his ownership.  Upon arrival at Canepa, every collector car for sale is put through an extensive and diligent process called the "Canepa Difference." This includes a major and comprehensive mechanical inspection where all systems are checked and serviced as necessary. They also receive an award-winning concours-level detailing, including a thorough cleaning of each and every surface that ensures that every car is a sight to behold. With its paint in show quality condition, and the leather interior with almost no signs of wear, this 964 Carrera RS is a shining example of what a time-capsule RS looks like. This specimen was delivered new to Japan via the importer Mizwa and was first registered in Takasaki under the vanity plate 330TA964. Japanese export documents illustrate that it remained with its original owner for more than 15 years until passing to its second recorded custodian, after which it became registered in Shinagawa as 329RO980.rnrnIn October 2014, this exceptionally well-preserved car was purchased by the White Collection and imported to Houston, Texas. At that point it indicated 12,705 kilometers (~7,895 miles). Since entering the White Collection, it has not required much on account of its excellent condition; between 2015 and 2017, this RS was furnished with approximately $1,935 of miscellaneous parts, with a demonstrated focus on getting its presentation absolutely correct. Otherwise, it has been started and run to operating temperature monthly.rnrnEssentially a road-homologated rendition of the contemporary Carrera Cup race car, the RS weighs nearly 300 pounds less than a standard 964-generation Carrera Coupe. Better yet, it sports absolutely zero driver aids or safety features, excepting ABS. Porsche engineers removed every ounce of material or cabin feature that could have been removed for weight savings. The windows? Crank them up yourself. Door handle? Here's a pair of cloth pull-straps! And how about the steering? Entirely unassisted, and wonderfully precise. rnrnThe carpeting and windows are much thinner, some of the body panels are aluminum, and of course there is no standard radio or air conditioning system to speak of in the RS Lightweight. For maximum rigidity, the body is entirely seam-welded-a unique feature not seen on any other 964-generation production car. The model's standard 17-inch Cup wheels look exactly like normal 964 fare-except they are cast from magnesium, and nearly 22% lighter.rnrnThe RS derives its power from an exclusive 3.6-liter, 240 horsepower Type M64/03 flat-six which drives the rear wheels through five-speed transaxle with racing clutch and single-mass flywheel. Handling has been similarly improved via a sports-derived suspension, as well as front and rear brakes respectively borrowed from the 911 Turbo and Carrera Cup models.rnrnThis is an absolutely analog, unfiltered thrill to drive-even half-fast-and yet, only the most talented drivers will be able to explore its capabilities at ten-tenths. In this upper range, the RS Lightweight has been rightly called too good for the road and a point-and-shoot missile on the track; an exceptionally well-preserved example such as this is, simply, an offering not to be missed.
